Community Building Nonprofits Inspire Social Action
When many people think about their favorite cause, one of the first things that may come to mind is its branding campaigns, but it should be community building nonprofits. And there’s a good reason why; in order to develop a local hub for creating strong impact through the cause, each person who cares about the cause should feel welcomed into its community and it should feel easy to get involved. There should be minimal barriers for people to start enacting change for a purpose they care about. And, for non-profit organizations, that community experience and ease of involvement should be a primary goal. Plus, the benefits are manifold.
As we create membership campaigns for community building nonprofits, we are inspired each and every time by the generosity and sense of responsibility of people who care about making a difference. We see numerous volunteer efforts put forth by organizations, ranging from volunteering on Thanksgiving to rallying for human rights, demonstrating how community members coming together to make a difference. Community members create connections with each other despite demographics, backgrounds and interests. And, they see that despite these differences, there are values they share.
Consider this description of a community from Rabbi Avi Olitzky: Think of a “community as a circle to which you feel you belong that will miss your presence; it reaches out to you when you’re absent, and you long for it when you’re not there.” The special ingredient to building strong community building nonprofits is in creating those close-knit relationships, which you consistently nurture.
Community building nonprofits have the ability to drive social impact. The level of connection within the community is what determines whether the organization can and will move mountains.
